Disney Princess Canvas

Bethany has decided that Disney Princesses are her favourite theme at the moment and was asking for a picture for her wall.  As most things are very expensive, I decided to make her a new canvas for her wall.  I used a smaller canvas this time and added some Princess wallpaper to it.  As the images were too far apart, I cut two of them out and added them to the canvas afterwards. It's not amazing, but my daughter loves it!

Baby Grab Bags

I made these bags for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law for their new baby.  I saw the original idea on Pinterest and decided to make them as a gift. I made 5 little drawstring bags and filled them with baby essentials.

I called them Baby Grab Bags and added a tag to them explaining that each of them contains a vest, nappies, wipes, and nappy sacks. The idea is that parents can just grab a bag on their way out of the door and it already has everything they need.  Just got to make myself some for when my next is due!

My first skirt!

I made a skirt!  I made my first piece of clothing today, which I am very proud of.  I have been meaning to try it for ages and have only just have the courage to try it.  I used a tutorial from www.sewmamasew.com and adapted it for my daughter.  The next one needs to be a bit longer, but I am definitely going to try again.

Tissue Holder

Whilst looking for something new to make, I came across a pattern for making a holder for pocket tissue packs.  I decided I wanted to make a bigger one to hold a full size pack of tissues so I worked out some new dimensions and then went with it.  It was such a simple thing to make but very effective.  Am very pleased with them!

Drawstring bag

I found a lovely idea for a present for new mums but I needed to be able to make a drawstring bag for it to work so I needed to learn how to do one!  With a bit of help from my husband and my dad, we managed to create a prototype which I am very pleased with.  Just got to make a full set before I show the final outcome.

And I'm back!

Back after a long break after being ill with morning sickness and not in the mood for crafting!  I have just finished a project for my brother-in-law making 7 little pouches for him to add a gift to.  I have used the same style I have used several times before and just changed the sizes as necessary.

They have taken a while to complete and I found it quite boring to do the same thing over and over again!  Looking forward to trying something new now.

Mini flat bottomed bag

I used the pattern from www.thehappyzombie.com to create this 'flat bottomed' bag.  I've used her pattern several times to create bags but not tried one with corners like this.  I got very confused by the instructions until I got my husband to help with it! Despite that, I'm actually quite pleased with how it worked and will be trying it again with a bigger bag.  I made this one very small just so I could practise, but I might make some as gift bags for Christmas now!

Dinosaur Bag

Another one of my family popular bags :o) This one was for my sister for her birthday.  As she likes dinosaurs I found some gorgeous fabric with them on and made her a bag from it.  I added a single pocket to the inside this time so you can see more of the pattern on the outer bag.  I was pleased with the result as I had to improvise from the existing pattern to get it all working!

Toy sleeping bag

My daughter's favourite toy is Darf the giraffe (of which we have 3) and today 'he' asked for a sleeping bag and a new pillow.  Apparently his previous pillow was no good as he kept 'falling off it'.  So Mummy made a new one for him.

My daughter chose the material for him, so hopefully it will do this time!

Animal canvas

I love making things for my daughter and as she is learning words now, I decided to create her a new canvas for her room with some animal words on it.  She chose the animal MDF shapes from 'The Range' and I chose the blue wallpaper to staple to the canvas.  We added the shapes to the canvas with some PVA glue and then used some letter stickers from Papermania to write the names of the animals.  All ready to hang in her room now!

MDF scrapbook 3

I've really enjoyed making my MDF scrapbook and as my sewing machine is a bit poorly at the moment, I thought I'd add some more pages from that instead.

'I love You' frame

This was one of the first things I saw on Pinterest that I thought I'd make.  It's a very simple but effective way of leaving messages for your loved one each day (or whenever you remember!). I used an old photo frame and put a piece of decorated paper inside it.  On the paper I added sticker to spell the words and then put it all together.  Used with some whiteboard pens you have a wipe clean way of leaving messages over and over again.

Quick cushion

After making the bag for my daughter from the Hello Kitty fabric, I had a bit left over so asked her what she wanted.  She decided she wanted a little cushion or pillow to take to bed with her.  I made it really simple by using just the remainder fabric and a second spotty piece for the back.  I sewed it all up face to face and then turned it the right way round. I added stuffing and then for speed just sewed it up along the open seam.  My daughter definitely enjoyed it!

Hello Kitty Bag

My daughter loves Hello Kitty so I decided to get her some fabric to make her a little bag to carry her toys around in.

I adapted the previous design I had used to make a smaller bag which she could carry in her hand. I also decided that it would be better if I added a pocket on the inside rather than the outside so my daughter could see all the Hello Kitty design.  I therefore put the straps on the inside as well.

Large Bag

I made my first bag especially for someone else this weekend!  I was allowed to choose the material but it had to fit an A4 ring binder so I had to re-think all the sizes.  It was quite a challenge getting it right for someone else and trying to make everything straight, but I think they liked it.

Small shoulder bag

Had a go at a different bag today.  I found a website called www.crazylittleprojects.com which had a pattern for a small messenger bag.  It only took me the afternoon to make and I am really pleased with it!  I need to make something different now as I don't think I need that many bags!

Satnav Case again!

And here is the new improved manly SatNav case. I let Steve choose the material this time and am quite pleased with the results. I bought a packet of buttons from Papermanias range which included the button I used on the front.

Pen roll

I made a few of the crayon rolls for my daughter and her friends last year and decided to change the pattern slightly to make them suitable for presents for my family. This is one that I made for my sister to keep pens in as she is a teacher as well.  I used dinosaur fabric to make it a bit more fun. I also made one for my other sister that is for paintbrushes and one for my mum which is for make-up brushes.

Bethy's bag

I made another bag!  After I'd made my bag, Bethany wanted one as well so I let her choose which fabric she wanted and she chose 'spotty'. Think I'm going to be making a few more of these soon and then I will have to find something else to make!

Bunting for Bethany

I wanted to make something for my daughter for Christmas and decided to try some bunting after seeing a friend's amazing effort.  I cut triangles out of fabric so that I had two of each design and 6 different designs.  I sewed the two matching triangles together and then turned them the right way round.  I couldn't find bias binding in the shop so I used cotton tape instead along the top of the bunting which I sewed around the straight edges of the flags to hide the open seams from turning it.

Bethany loved her 'flags' and they are now hung in her room!

(I will take a better picture soon!)

My first bag!

I am so proud at the moment! I have always wanted to make a bag and my first attempt worked better than I could have imagined!  I found the pattern for this at www.thehappyzombie.com and it is brilliant.  The pattern is really wasy to follow and the result are excellent.  Hopefully the first of many new bags I will make!

Sewn case

This was my second attempt at a mobile phone cover but my husband decided it would work well for the SatNav instead!  I think I may have to make him a more manly one.

This one was much easier to make as it only had two pieces of material and a piece of wadding.  I firstly sewed the elastic loop on to the lining and then sewed the three bits together.  I turned them the right way and then sealed up the turning hole.  I then ironed the flap etc into position and sewed around the other edges.  Once it was all finished I sewed a button on to the front to fasten it.  I am really pleased with the result... what shall I sew next?

Take two pieces of fabric and piece of wadding all the same size. Sew a loop of elastic with ends sticking out to the reverse of the lining. Stack with material face to face and wadding on top. Sew around the edges leaving a small hole opposite the elastic. Turn the whole thing the right way round and sew across the whole of the length where the hole is. Fold the bottom part up to where the pocket will end and iron and pin. Sew around the 3 edges to secure. Iron the flap down into place. Sew a button onto the front to finish.

Mobile Phone Case

I found a design for an Ipod case which I decided to adapt for my new Christmas phone. The first attempt went terribly wrong (I blamed the design!) but my second attempt went much better.  I liked it so much, I had a go at making another one with a different design which I'll post soon...
