Bethany Box

I like to make things for my family at Christmas time and this was something I made for my daughter last year.  I have one which I have also started for my son so hopefully he'll get that one this year for his birthday.  I bought the boxes from The MDF Man at the Hobby Crafts Show last year and always planned on making them for my children. Also at the show I found a lovely stall that sold wooden buttons where I bought ones to spell out Bethany's name.

I painted the box using some Dulux sample pots and then used ink pads to decorate the initial buttons and the butterfly.  I then stuck them down and coated the whole thing in clear Mod Podge to finish.  Bethany loves it so that's the main thing!

Name plaque for James

Continuing with my 'boyish' makes, here is a name plaque I also made for my son James.  I made one of these for my daughter several years ago and thought it would be nice for him to have one too.

When I went to the HobbyCrafts show recently, I bought a lot from the MDF man and this plaque was one of them.  I painted it with a tester pot of paint and then used some letter stickers and dinosaur stickers that I bought from The Range.  Hopefully he'll enjoy it when he's a bit older!

Painted pencil case

I'm trying to go through some of the craft things that I bought but never got round to doing anything with.  I've had this MDF pencil case for about 3 years so thought I would decorate it for my daughter.  I used a tester pot of emulsion paint to paint the box and then used a sparkle effect Mod Podge to decorate it. I then added black letter stickers to the top to finish it off.

Animal canvas

I love making things for my daughter and as she is learning words now, I decided to create her a new canvas for her room with some animal words on it.  She chose the animal MDF shapes from 'The Range' and I chose the blue wallpaper to staple to the canvas.  We added the shapes to the canvas with some PVA glue and then used some letter stickers from Papermania to write the names of the animals.  All ready to hang in her room now!

MDF scrapbook 3

I've really enjoyed making my MDF scrapbook and as my sewing machine is a bit poorly at the moment, I thought I'd add some more pages from that instead.

B.E.T.H.A.N.Y.

My daughter loves helping with my crafting so I like to do things for her. Recently I wanted to decorate wooden letters for her name but for ages they only had E.T.H.A.N. Finally I managed to get the last two! I painted them all with wall testers and then Bethany helped me decorate them... Some came out better than others but I love them because we made them together.

MDF Scrapbook page 2

Two more pages from my daughter's scrapbook using an mdf blank book.  These pages are showing her on the slide with her favourite toy 'Darf'. I used a lot of ribbon and double sided tape for this one and then kept the next one very simple with two ovals of flower paper.  Am very happy with these pages.

MDF Scrapbook page 1

I have always wanted to try scrapbooking and have had two attempts at it previously with varying degrees of success.  Whilst at the Hobbycrafts show at the NEC, my sister and I came across a stall selling MDF products and I bought an MDF album to try decorating.  I kept trying to decide what large event I should record in it and nothing seemed important enough.  Then we had a day of beautiful sunshine and my daughter spent the day playing outside and she thought our garden was a playground.  I took some brilliant photos (if I do say so myself!) and decided that this day was the day to be recorded in the album.

I painted each page using tester paints of emulsion and then cut the pictures to the right size and shape.  I used different papers and embellishments on each page and did some writing on them to tell the story of the day.  More pages to come...

Decorated hearts

I made these decorated hearts for two little girls who are friends of my daughter.  I made the pink one by painting an mdf heart with pink wall paint then added some letter stickers I bought from Hobbycraft and then some puffy stickers also from there.  They only sold them for about a month and I really wish I'd bought more!  The other one is decopatched with the same stickers but in pink this time.  I added some pink ribbon through the hole at the top to finish them.

Name Plaque

I went to the Hobbycrafts show at the NEC yesterday and found this brilliant seller of mdf blanks.  I wanted to buy them all!  Instead, I just bought a few and this name plaque blank was one of them.  I painted this with a wall paint tester pot, added some chipboard letters I bought yesterday and lastly added some butterfly puffy stickers.  This is especially for my daughter.
